Astros Announce Jose Altuve News After Leaving Braves Game

Jose Altuve has been the face of the Houston Astros franchise since he debuted for the organization 15 seasons ago in 2011.

Since then, the 35-year-old veteran has captured two World Series titles (2017, 2022) and filled his personal trophy case with a lengthy list of accolades. Altuve has collected an American League MVP, nine All-Star selections, seven Silver Sluggers, three batting titles and a Gold Glove.

In 2025, Altuve has once again played a role in Houston’s success. Although he has taken a step backward since his physical prime, he remains committed to doing what’s best for the franchise—which is why he learned how to play the outfield in spring training.

At the plate, he still remains a threat, although his numbers have trended down in the second half, posting a .237 batting average, .308 on-base percentage and .710 OPS in 50 appearances since the All-Star break.

Jose Altuve Injury Update

During Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, the Astros got off to a hot start, with Altuve himself collecting a hit in the top of the third inning.

However, he was removed from the game unexpectedly, with trade deadline acquisition Ramon Urias taking his place in the lineup and slotting into second base in the bottom of the third. With concerns mounting over Altuve’s status, the Astros announced moments later that he had been removed with “right foot discomfort.” (h/t Matt Kawahara of The Houston Chronicle)

This is an unfortunate development for Houston, as Altuve’s contributions will be crucial to the team’s success down the stretch. He is expected to continue being a key piece of the regular season heading into the playoffs, and if he is forced to miss extended time because of his foot discomfort, not only would his production be missed, but also his veteran presence as a well-respected clubhouse leader.

After leading the AL West for most of the season, the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers are both in the midst of winning streaks, making every remaining game incredibly important for Houston if they want to take the division crown.
