Astros rookie Jeremy Pena, OF Yordan Alvarez exit after nasty collision

Locked in a scoreless duel with the New York Mets Wednesday afternoon, the Houston Astros saw not one, but two of their star players suffer injuries during a nasty collision in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The scary scene comes just one day after the Astros placed outfielder Michael Brantley on the injured list due to right shoulder discomfort.

Both Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena are in the midst of big first halves, with the former leading the loaded lineup in home runs (23), RBI (56), runs scored (49), hits (75) and all three categories of his .321/.415/.667 slash line. Pena meanwhile, has slashed a solid .275/.329/.465 with nine home runs, 27 RBI and six stolen bases over 56 games in his rookie campaign.

Pena only recently came back from a stint on the injured list due to thumb discomfort. Alvarez is arguably Houston's best hitter and agreed to a six-year, $115 million contract extension earlier this month.

ESPN and The Associated Press reported both players are being evaluated for concussions.
