A storied college career led former LSU star Tommy White to be selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Athletics.
Two seasons later, an excellent minor league career has earned White a promotion to the major leagues.
According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Athletics are promoting White ahead of Friday's game against the Washington Nationals. Passan stated that White is expected to be in the starting lineup for Friday's game.
White has been raking against minor league pitching this season to the tune of a .303/.353/.465 slash line, good for an OPS of .818 with 10 home runs and 64 RBI this season.
Overall, in 781 minor league at-bats, White has smashed 24 home runs and collected 124 RBI while slashing .279/.337/.430.

Entering Friday, the Athletics rank 20th in Wins Above Average from the third base position season. Max Muncy has the most plate appearances for an A's third baseman this season, but he was recently demoted back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
With no other real options at third base, the path is clear for White to get every day playing time and continue to produce at the level he's done in both college and the minor leagues.
A hot-hitting White could make an Athletics lineup that already features All-Stars Shea Langeliers and Nick Kurtz even more dangerous heading toward the postseason.
