Athletics slugger Tyler Soderstrom’s season is ending early. According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, Soderstrom will undergo season-ending hip surgery on Friday.

It goes without saying, but it is a difficult way for a player’s season to end. Updates on his injury recovery will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.

Soderstrom played well in 2025 and landed a seven-year, $86 million contract extension before the 2026 MLB season. He once again had a strong season this year, recording an .810 OPS and 19 home runs across 109 games played. He’s a good player with a bright future without question.

Soderstrom will be a key piece to the puzzle for the A’s once he returns from injury. The Athletics are seemingly hoping to build a contender by the time they make the move to Las Vegas in 2028. The 2026 campaign has been disappointing overall for the team, but the Athletics’ roster still features a number of young and talented players.

The team’s core of Soderstrom, Nick Kurtz, Jacob Wilson and others will excite fans for the future. Soderstrom’s season-ending injury is obviously far from ideal, but the hope is that he will return next season and make a significant impact as the A’s hope to take a step forward.

For now, the 49-76 Athletics — who are currently tied for the worst record in the sport with the Los Angeles Angels — will attempt to finish the season strong. Their next game is scheduled for 7:40 PM ET against the Royals in Kansas City on Tuesday night.
