The Atlanta Braves are in Cleveland on Friday night to open a road series against the Guardians after taking two of three from their NL East rival New York Mets, improving to 53-68 but still sitting well outside the playoff picture.

They did, however, get some positive news ahead of Friday’s matchup. The team officially announced that star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has been reinstated to the lineup after missing the last 15 games on the injured list with right Achilles tightness.

“The Braves today reinstated OF Ronald Acuña Jr. from the 10-day injured list and outrighted C Sandy León to Triple-A Gwinnett,” the team posted on social media.

Acuna Jr. has had stellar eight year career with the Braves, but in recent memory it's been derailed by some significant injuries, which is a key reason Atlanta chose to be as cautious as they have over the last stretch of games with Acuna sitting on the IL.

In July 2021, he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, ending his season. Then, in May 2024, he tore the ACL in his left knee. In his return this year, he has appeared in 55 games, earned an MLB All-Star selection, and posted a .306 batting average with 60 hits, 48 runs, 14 home runs, and 26 RBIs.

Braves manager Brian Snitker offered insight into Acuña’s impending return earlier this week, noting that the 27-year-old will not require a rehab assignment to get back into form. He last appeared in a game on July 29.

Atlanta has endured a revolving door of injuries this season, particularly among its pitching staff, with several players sidelined for extended stretches — a key factor in their struggles in the win column.
