Trey Yesvage has impressed during his first year in professional baseball with the Blue Jays organization, and he will finish the 2025 campaign with some additional hardware for his trophy case.
The right-hander and top prospect has been named the Blue Jays’ 2025 Minor League Player of the Year via Baseball America, one of the most coveted publications covering baseball from both the minor and Major Leagues. BA named Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Konnor Griffin as their 2025 Minor League Player of the Year across all teams/affiliates.
After being drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Jays, Yesavage has skyrocketed his way through the farm system this year. He made his pro debut in Single-A Dunedin on April 8th and made seven starts before being promoted to High-A Vancouver in mid-May.
He made four starts there before being moved to Double-A New Hampshire, where his time there was also short-lived. After eight outings (seven starts) in the Eastern League, the Jays moved him to Triple-A Buffalo for his last and final test in the minor leagues. With the Bisons, he pitched 17 1/3 innings, making six appearances (four starts) before the Jays called him up to the big leagues on September 15th.

Across all four levels in the minors, Yesavage posted a 3.12 ERA across 98 innings. He allowed 34 earned runs and 41 walks while striking out 160 batters, working to a 14.69 K/9 and a 41.1% K-rate. Despite not pitching in the minor leagues since September 10th, he leads all MiLB pitchers (minimum 90 innings) in K/9 and strikeout percentage while ranking seventh in strikeouts, just behind fellow Jays prospect Gage Stanifer.
The East Carolina alum posted a .257 BABIP and a 2.52 FIP through his first foray in the minor leagues, and his strikeout numbers, combined with the Blue Jays in ‘win-now’ mode for the postseason, led to his callup to the Major Leagues.
At the big league level, Yesavage has made two starts and has allowed eight hits, five earned runs, five walks, with 11 strikeouts, good enough for a 5.00 ERA and a 2.37 FIP. The ERA and earned runs don’t reflect his two outings, as a couple of runs from his latest start against the Kansas City Royals could have been deemed unearned based on a different scoring opinion.

He has been a bit wild at times, something he experienced a bit in the minor leagues, but his fastball/splitter combo is deadly on the mound, and one of the reasons he crafted nine punchouts in his debut against the Tampa Bay Rays to set a franchise record for K’s in a debut.
It’s no surprise that Baseball America has named the 22-year-old the Blue Jays Minor League Player of the Year, and now Yesavage is on track to carve out a spot on the club’s postseason roster. He should get one more start before the season comes to a close this week, and he will do so at the Rogers Centre for the first time this year.
