Baseball America recently updated their top 30 prospects for each organization. The Braves had some major shakeups with so many young guys off to scorching hot starts, let’s take a look at the updated top 10.
For the first time in years, the Braves have a farm system worth getting excited about.
The top 10 starts with three pitchers. You should know JR Ritchie and Didier Fuentes by now — both have made a significant impact at the major-league level through the first couple of months of the season, and neither will hold prospect eligibility much longer.
Eric Hartman has been the star of the show on the farm. He entered the season as a fringe top-20 prospect in the organization and is now a top-100 prospect in all of baseball according to Baseball America. He will be in the conversation for the top spot in the system once Ritchie and Fuentes graduate. Through 36 games, Hartman is hitting over .300 with 12 homers and 18 stolen bases.
John Gil and Tate Southisene are two others who could enter that conversation by season’s end. Gil is a year older, posting an .819 OPS in Rome with 23 stolen bases, while the 19-year-old Southisene is putting up a .901 OPS with a league-leading 32 steals for Low-A Augusta.
Owen Murphy was drafted in the first round alongside Ritchie. He was essentially unhittable across the 2024 and 2025 seasons in High-A Rome, but he’s hit his first real speed bump this year, bouncing between Double-A Columbus and Triple-A Gwinnett and posting a 6.29 ERA over eight starts.
Briggs McKenzie and Alex Lodise were both taken by the Braves in the first four rounds of last year’s draft. McKenzie has thrown just 2.1 professional innings, but the upside is significant. Lodise has the tools to stick at shortstop and brings surprising power for the position — he’s already got six homers on the season.
Then there’s 17-year-old Diego Tornes, the crown jewel of Atlanta’s international free agent class a year ago. It’s far too early to project a ceiling, but the tools are all there — an impressive frame, the potential for elite power, and plus athleticism across the board.
