Blue Jays’ Andrés Giménez leaves game with apparent injury

The 2026 Toronto Blue Jays just can’t seem to stay healthy.

On Thursday in the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, shortstop Andrés Giménez left the contest after appearing to injure his hamstring while attempting to beat out a ground ball in the top of the fourth inning. 

A key defender for the Blue Jays, Giménez has been on a good run at the plate as of late. In his last 15 games, Giménez is batting .296 with one home run and three RBIs. Before leaving the game, Giménez was 1-for-2 with a single and two stolen bases. 

For the season, Giménez has appeared in 123 games and is batting .238 with eight home runs and 49 RBIs. The 27-year-old has reached base at a .240 clip and has a .640 OPS. 

Brandon Valenzuela entered the game to replace Giménez, batting fifth and playing first base. The Blue Jays moved Ernie Clement from second base to shortstop, Charles McAdoo from third base to second base, and Kazuma Okamoto from first base to third base.
