The Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series to take on the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto is set to begin the series on Friday at home for Game 1.
The Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners in an exciting ALCS matchup that went the distance. George Springer emerged as the hero in Game 7, delivering a three-run blast in the seventh inning to give Toronto a 4-3 lead that would hold. Springer has continued to turn back the clock in 2025. The 36-year-old veteran had steadily declined at the plate in each season since signing a six-year, $150 million deal with the Blue Jays ahead of the 2021 season, leading many to believe his best years were behind him.
However, Springer is having his best offensive season yet as a Blue Jay, posting a .309 batting average, .399 on-base percentage, .959 OPS, 32 home runs and 84 RBIs across 140 appearances in the regular season. All of those marks are his highest during his five-year tenure in Toronto.
Springer’s incredible season was recognized on Thursday, one day before the World Series. Louisville Slugger announced the American League finalists for the Silver Slugger Award, and Springer was selected at designated hitter. While Springer is still capable of playing the outfield when needed, Springer has transitioned to DH in Toronto to prioritize his health.
He was joined on the finalist list by teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. The Blue Jays announced the group’s nominations and congratulated them on X. "BALANCED ATTACK Vladdy, George and Bo have been named #SilverSluggerAward Finalists, and your Toronto Blue Jays are also Finalists for Team of the Year!" the team wrote. Other AL finalists at DH include Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brent Rooker of the Athletics.

The Silver Slugger award honors the best offensive players at each position in both the American and National leagues. Presented annually since 1980 by Louisville Slugger, the award is voted on by MLB managers and coaches, who consider a combination of statistics and overall offensive value.
If Springer wins, it would be the third Silver Slugger of his career but his first as a Blue Jay. He previously earned two during his time with the Houston Astros. For now, his focus remains on October. Springer’s contributions will be critical as the Blue Jays chase four more wins in hopes of capturing their first World Series title since 1993.
Game 1 of the World Series is set for 8 p.m. ET Friday in Toronto. It will be televised by Fox.
