Blue Jays Facing Decision After Injury News

The Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Lenyn Sosa began a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on Monday, Mitch Bannon of the Athletic reported, starting a clock that points to a roster decision for the club.

The 26-year-old infielder landed on the 10-day injured list on May 28 with a right wrist contusion after being hit by a pitch from Miami Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara. He had resumed hitting at the Blue Jays complex in Florida but sat "behind" fellow infielder Addison Barger in his recovery, manager John Schnieder said Thursday; however, it looks like that is no longer the case.

The roster math shifted Saturday, when the Blue Jays acquired infielder Luis Urias from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations. Urias, a right-handed utility man who can cover second, short and third, is expected to join the active roster after exercising an upward mobility clause in his contract. He has not appeared in a major league game since August. 24, 2025, with the Athletics.

Sosa has struggled since arriving from the Chicago White Sox in an April 13 trade, batting .188 with one home run, nine RBIs and 18 strikeouts in 28 games. The Blue Jays, at 38-39 and third in the American League East, had bet he could rediscover his 2025 form when he hit .264 with 22 home runs and 75 RBIs.

With Barger also working back and prospect Charles McAdoo already on the roster, Toronto will need to clear space once Sosa is activated. McAdoo is another player who has been struggling to find their footing. The prospect is batting .160 with six strikeouts in eight games.

How the Blue Jays untangle the infield will decide whether Sosa gets another look or becomes the odd man out.
