Two more Toronto Blue Jays’ prospects were rewarded with promotions on Thursday evening.

The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon is reporting that infielder Sean Keys is making the leap from Double-A New Hampshire to Triple-A Buffalo.

Keys appeared in 49 games with the Fisher Cats this season and batted .285 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs, good for the most home runs in the Blue Jays’ organization. He has showcased a strong eye at the plate this season, highlighted by his 28 walks, which have helped him post a .411 on-base percentage.

The Blue Jays selected Keys during the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. At the time, Keys was a junior at Bucknell University; he joined Single-A Dunedin following his selection. In 22 games, Keys impressed, batting .293 with one home run and 20 RBIs, and turned in an OBP of .378.

Keys’ strong first showing at the professional level earned him a trip to Vancouver to test his talents at the High-A level. The third baseman spent the entire 2025 season with the Canadians, and while his average dipped, Keys impressed with his ability to drive the ball. Across 119 games, Keys batted .217 with an organization-leading 19 home runs and 72 RBIs.

Now ranked as the Blue Jays’ 15th-ranked prospect, Keys spoke with Blue Jays Nation and touched on how he is focused on the day-to-day but also knows that he won’t be satisfied until he reaches his ultimate goal.

“Just keep moving forward,” explained Keys. “It’s a long season, and while some things have gone my way early this year, I also have to acknowledge that I need to be more consistent as the season continues. Playing hard, not giving away at-bats; things I can control to put myself in a good position to move on to whatever lies ahead of me. To be proud of what I have accomplished and be present in the moment. And one day, walk up those Rogers Centre dugout steps and play in front of that Canadian crowd.”

The second promotion was awarded to the Blue Jays’ 28th-ranked prospect, Carson Messina. Messina will be moving up from the Florida Complex League Blue Jays to Single-A Dunedin. The Blue Jays selected Messina in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB Draft and went $400k over slot value, which helped convince Messina to turn professional instead of attending the University of South Carolina.

Messina pitched in one game with the FCL Blue Jays in 2025 before suffering a season-ending injury. In that outing, he finished with a line of 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. The 20-year-old then returned to the FCL to open this season, and the results were nothing short of spectacular.

Through five games (four starts) with the FCL Blue Jays this year, Messina is 0-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 0.81 WHIP. The right-hander has struck out 20 batters over his 16 innings and has held opposing teams to a .115 average against.

Messina is set to take the next step in a Blue Jays’ farm system that is starting to become loaded with pitchers across its lower minor league levels.
