The Toronto Blue Jays had their 2025 Major League Baseball season end in heartbreaking fashion. Toronto, which won the American League East with a 94-68 record in the regular season, won the AL pennant, making it to the World Series for the first time since 1993. The Blue Jays had a 3-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic but lost Games 6 and 7 to end their season.
Despite the World Series loss, Toronto's year was a success, and it has been active this offseason as it attempts to make another deep postseason run in 2026.
General manager Ross Atkins and the Blue Jays have signed multiple players in free agency, including starting pitcher Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million contract and Japanese third baseman Kazuma Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million deal.
Despite the amount of money they have already spent, the Blue Jays have reportedly been involved with some other top free agents as well. Shortstop Bo Bichette, who has spent seven years of his career with Toronto and is now on the market, and four-time All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker have been two of the biggest names.
On Sunday, with Bichette and Tucker not making their decision yet, Toronto reportedly agreed to a deal with a former Silver Slugger Award winner.
MLB reporter Mike Rodriguez announced on social media that the Blue Jays agreed to a minor league deal with an invite to Major League spring training with outfielder Eloy Jimenez.
"According to my sources, Eloy Jiménez has just reached an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays. The deal is a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training," Rodriguez wrote.

The 29-year-old Jimenez has spent six years in MLB, most of which came with the Chicago White Sox. In 534 career games, he batted .269 with a .780 OPS, 95 home runs and 298 RBIs. His best two seasons in the majors came during his first two years with the White Sox in 2019 and 2020. Across those two seasons, he had 45 homers and 120 RBIs.
Jimenez, who last played in the big leagues in 2024 with the Baltimore Orioles, spent time in the Tampa Bay Rays organization last season and ended the year in the minors with the Blue Jays, electing free agency in November.
While this is just a minor league deal, Jimenez is hoping to get back to his Silver Slugger form from 2020 with the defending American League champion Blue Jays in 2026.
