The Toronto Blue Jays finally halted their early-season slide on Wednesday night by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 at Rogers Centre. Entering the series finale on a six-game losing streak, Toronto had already dropped the first two matchups against the same franchise that denied them a World Series title last season. But the Blue Jays delivered a more disciplined performance to secure a much-needed win and avoid a sweep at home.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. quietly delivered one of his more efficient outings of the young season. The Blue Jays’ first baseman finished 2-for-3 with a walk. He reached base three times and was consistent at the plate, even though he did not record an RBI in the win.
Through the opening stretch of the 2026 season, Guerrero Jr. has yet to hit top form, currently hitting .268 with 11 hits, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in 12 games.
While he remains a centerpiece in Toronto’s offense, his production has been relatively quiet compared to his usual standards. He did record his first home run of the season on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, but overall, it has been a measured start for the Blue Jays’ first baseman.
Toronto does not return to action until Friday, when they host the Tampa Bay Rays and Guerrero Jr. used that off day to step away from baseball. On Thursday, he made a high-profile appearance at Scotiabank Arena for the NBA matchup between the Toronto Raptors and the Miami Heat.
The NBA acknowledged his presence with a post on X.

Guerrero Jr. has become one of the most recognizable athletes in Toronto since debuting with the Blue Jays as a highly touted prospect. His status was solidified last year when he signed a 14-year, $500 million contract extension, which firmly established him as the face of the franchise and its long-term plans.
Even with a slow start at the plate, the Blue Jays will be counting on Guerrero Jr. to rediscover his elite production as they attempt to build momentum following Wednesday’s win.
