Bo Bichette Comments on First Season With Mets

Bo Bichette appears comfortable with the direction of the New York Mets despite the team’s disappointing 2026 season.

The veteran third baseman addressed his future with the club while discussing the opt-out clauses in his three-year, $126 million contract. Bichette has an opportunity to opt out after this season, making his comments particularly notable as the Mets evaluate their roster for 2027.

Bichette made it clear that he is enjoying his first season in New York.

“I am having a really good time here right now,” Bichette said, per Mike Puma of the New York Post. “There are a lot of really good young players that make it fun to come here and a lot of really good players that have been around, so I am enjoying my time here.”

Those comments come as the Mets have shifted toward evaluating younger players following the Aug. 3 trade deadline. Bichette has remained part of that evaluation while continuing his first season at third base after spending most of his career at shortstop.

The 28-year-old has appeared in 128 games for New York this season, hitting .266 with 13 home runs and 65 RBIs entering Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Bichette also has recent reasons to feel encouraged about his place in the lineup. He recorded a three-hit game against Washington on Aug. 16 and added two hits against San Diego two days later.

The Mets, meanwhile, have continued to look toward their younger players while planning for next season. Carson Benge has emerged as one of those players, giving the club another developing piece alongside established veterans.

For now, Bichette’s comments stop short of revealing what he will do with his opt-out. But his willingness to praise the Mets’ young core suggests he is comfortable with the direction of the organization.
