Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to a 14-year, $500 million contract extension (via ESPN's Jeff Passan). The deal is the third-largest in MLB history, trailing only New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto ($765 million) and Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani ($700 million).

Born in Montreal, Guerrero debuted for the Blue Jays in 2019 and now gets to spend the rest of his career in Toronto. A four-time All-Star, Guerrero is one of the best right-handed hitters in baseball, owning an .860 OPS in 3,184 career at-bats.

With the face of their franchise locked up long-term, the Blue Jays now have the looming free agency of shortstop Bo Bichette to address.

Also debuting in 2019, Bichette has spent his entire MLB career alongside Guerrero. The two-time All-Star had an injury-riddled 2024 campaign that saw him post career-lows in several statistical categories, but he has been one of baseball's best offensive shortstops since his debut.

Following the Guerrero news on Sunday, many fans are predicting Bichette to also sign an extension with the Blue Jays, citing his preseason comments about wanting to spend his entire career with his longtime teammate.

This prediction is one several fans immediately made after the Guerrero news.

"Bo Bichette more likely to stay," one fan said.

"Bo Bichette extension incoming!" exclaimed another. "I feel it!!"

"BICHETTE #YOURENEXT," a fan added.

"Bo Bichette your next," another post read.

It was reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post on Thursday that Bichette is expected to leave Toronto in free agency. That said, the 27-year-old infielder made it clear before the season he wants his entire career to be played alongside Guerrero.

"Vladdy is one of my best friends," Bichette said in February, via Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. "We’ve had tons of conversations like that. We’ve talked about playing together forever since he was 18 and I was 19. That’s still a goal of ours."

With Guerrero extended for 14 years, fans are predicting Bichette will be next.
