It’s a very interesting construction against the right-handed Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Ha-Seong Kim is back in at shortstop, with Sean Murphy serving as the designated hitter — two guys the Braves have typically avoided using against righties.
The reason for this is that Yamamoto is a slight reverse-splits guy on the mound. He’s dominant against just about everyone, but left-handed batters have hit just .175 against him for his career with a .503 OPS. Conversely, right-handed hitters are hitting .209 with a .623 OPS.
There are no great options against a guy like that, but Walt Weiss appears to be playing the numbers instead of the traditional lefty/righty matchups. For the postseason, Sean Murphy is 2-for-7 with a home run, a double, and two walks. Kim is still looking for his first hit of the playoffs, but he has coaxed a couple of walks over seven plate appearances.
