Braves Briefing: Spencer Strider earns over $1.6M from MLB Pre-Arbitration Bonus Pool

One of the provisions of the newest Collective Bargaining Agreement was a pool of money, to be paid to pre-arbitration players who played an outsized role in their team's success. 

And Atlanta Braves starter Spencer Strider has to be happy that it's now a thing, because he got a bag. 

MLB has announced the 101 recipients of bonuses, and Strider's towards the top of the list, receiving $1.69M in bonuses from MLB. Topping the list was Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, who received $1.865M.  

The awards are determined based on a combination of award finishes and Joint WAR rankings of pre-arbitration players, whether or not they've already signed contract extensions with their existing teams (as both Strider and Rodriguez have). 

Other Atlanta Braves to receive bonuses are outfielder Michael Harris II ($576,627) and starting pitcher Bryce Elder ($392,639). 

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

56 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
