Braves checked in with Rangers about Jacob deGrom trade

The Atlanta Braves have been looking for ways to improve their team over the last few weeks as the MLB trade deadline approaches on Monday evening. The Braves recently swung a deal with the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Tyler Mahle, in addition to other transactions.

Recently, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on a big name that the Braves are reportedly circling ahead of the deadline.

“Braves checked on Jacob deGrom. Rangers listening on everyone. Unknown what chances are,” reported Heyman on X, formerly Twitter.

DeGrom may not be quite the same player he was at his peak, although he is still having a decent season for the Rangers and is capable of performing well on the postseason stage.

Pitching has been a major question mark for the Braves this year, as the team saw multiple starters go down prior to the beginning of the season, with Spencer Schwellenbach still yet to make his season debut for the team.

While Atlanta’s supplementary staff got off to a hot start to the year, that unit has cooled down over the last couple of months, putting the pressure on the front office to fill that void before the MLB playoffs arrive.

Adding DeGrom would certainly help smooth over fans’ tensions at what has been an underwhelming trade deadline flurry for the Braves so far.

In any case, the Braves are next set to take the field on Tuesday evening for the first game of a series against the divisional rival Miami Marlins.
