Braves claim pitcher off waivers from Tigers

The Atlanta Braves claimed right-handed pitcher Ricky Vanasco off waivers from the Detroit Tigers, the team announced Wednesday.

“The #Braves today claimed RHP Ricky Vanasco off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett,” the Braves announced on X, formerly Twitter.

While the move itself won’t make or break Atlanta’s season, it does provide the Braves with additional pitching depth. The Braves have pitching question marks as they deal with multiple injuries, so adding Vanasco is certainly an understandable decision.

Vanasco, 27, has pitched in a total of nine MLB games in his career. The right-hander most recently made a big league appearance with the Tigers in 2026. He has struggled at the MLB level, but Vanasco has impressed in the minor leagues.

Vanasco turned in a strong 2.53 ERA across 35 outings (two starts) at Triple-A this season. He holds a career minor league ERA of 3.32 across 170 total appearances (43 starts). While he has some starting experience, it seems as if Vanasco is a reliever at this point in his career.

It will be interesting to see if he impacts the big league ball club in 2026.

Braves currently playing Dodgers

The Braves most recently defeated the Dodgers by a final score 4-3 in Atlanta on Tuesday night. The contest represented the first of a three-game series between the National League ball clubs.

Atlanta and Los Angeles lead their divisions at the moment. This series is a potential postseason preview. The Braves would certainly love to send a message by earning a series win.
