Braves make a trade with the Orioles for Scott Blewett

Following their win over the Twins on Sunday, the Braves made a trade with the Orioles for right-handed pitcher Scott Blewett in exchange for cash. In a corresponding move, Jose Suarez has been designated for assignment.

Scott Blewett has some intriguing numbers. He actually owns an eye-popping 1.93 ERA over five major-league seasons but has only pitched 37.1 innings. Despite his success, he can’t seem to stick with a team.

Blewett actually spent some in the Braves organization back in 2023, pitching to a 4.23 ERA with AA Mississippi. This year, he’s already pitched for the Twins and Orioles, totaling a 1.00 ERA over nine innings.

The stuff might not jump off the screen, but Blewett has struck out 28.9% of the batters he’s faced and only has one walk. That’s going to lead to a lot of success, and he’s coming to the right place. The Braves bullpen has been better of late, and the expectation is that Craig Kimbrel will join the club soon, but they still need a lot of help in that area. Alex Anthopoulos is going to be looking for answers all season, and the hope is that Scott Blewett can be part of the solution moving forward.
