Among the many promotions the Braves made to start this week, 2022 fourth-round pick David McCabe is the one closest to the majors. He joined the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday, and in his first AAA game, mashed his 11th home run of the season.

The Braves drafted McCabe after he hit 16 home runs and 13 doubles as a junior at UNC Charlotte. Immediately, his offensive potential started flashing on the farm, as he recorded an .835 OPS over 123 games in his first professional season.
However, Tommy John surgery — a rarity for position players — limited McCabe to just 35 games in 2024, and he hit just .137 with a .497 OPS. Because of that, he was a fairly forgotten prospect coming into the season, but he’s really come on strong in the second half, hitting .350 with an OPS approaching 1.000 in his last 45 games before being promoted to Gwinnett.
There are some concerns about his future with the organization, given he’s a corner infielder, and both of those positions are locked up for the foreseeable future. But if he can continue flashing the kind of power he showcased last night, he could get some consideration as a DH/bench piece in the near future.
