Braves Remove Michael Harris From Lineup After Personal News

Michael Harris was hoping to get off to a strong start in his fifth season with the Atlanta Braves, but that has not been the case. A concerning trend has continued, as Harris is once again dealing with the same first‑half struggles that have held him back in recent years.

Harris has struggled at the plate to begin the season and his offensive production remains an issue. Through his first 14 games, the 25-year-old owns a .235 batting average, .264 on-base percentage, .637 OPS, two home runs and seven RBIs.

While Harris still provides value defensively in center field, the Braves know he is capable of much more. In 2022, his debut season, he took home National League Rookie of the Year honors and finished 13th in NL MVP voting.

As Harris looks to bounce back at the plate, he will not have the chance to do so on Saturday. He is set to miss the game against the Cleveland Guardians at Truist Park, but his absence is not health related.

The Braves announced on Saturday that Harris would be placed on the paternity list, with infielder Luke Williams taking his spot on the active roster. Harris could return on Sunday for the series finale against Cleveland, but with this being his first child, he will likely want to take as much time as he needs to be with his wife and newborn son.

Hours after the move became official, Atlanta released its lineup for Saturday and Harris was removed, with utility man Mauricio Dubon taking his place in the outfield.

When Harris returns, the season will remain an important one for him. He still has the ability to be an impactful player, but he once looked like a foundational piece and that status has become uncertain.

His struggles last year were a major factor in the Braves missing the MLB playoffs, and while the roster has more depth this season, continued inconsistency could force the organization to reconsider his long-term role. Atlanta believes he can still be a difference maker, but he needs to show it sooner rather than later.

For now, Harris will shift his focus to family, and the Braves will hope that stepping away briefly gives him the reset he needs when he returns to the field as both a key contributor and a first-time father beginning a new chapter.
