In perhaps the most 2025 move ever, the Braves announced Monday night that they have claimed Charlie Morton off waivers after he was designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers. The veteran is back with the team; although, Brian Snitker did not confirm that he would pitch during the final week of the season.

After spending four seasons with the Braves, Charlie Morton decided to give it one more go in 2025, signing a one-year deal with the Orioles, but this season has been a disaster from the jump.
Morton was shelled throughout the first month and eventually demoted to the bullpen. He did make it back into the rotation and pitched just well enough to build a little trade value before the deadline, but after posting an ERA north of 7.00 over nine starts with Detroit, the Tigers had no choice but to designate him for assignment.
Father Time has finally caught up with Charlie Morton, and this will almost certainly be his swan song. That’s what makes this gesture by the Braves so special. Morton was a cornerstone of one of the most successful eras in franchise history, playing a pivotal role in delivering a World Series title in 2021. Seeing him take the mound one final time in a Braves uniform will be an emotional and fitting sendoff for everyone involved.
