Brewers All-Star Hopes to Remain Key Piece of Future

Right-hander Freddy Peralta is in the final guaranteed season of his contract, though the Milwaukee Brewers hold a club option for 2026.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Peralta has expressed interest in a long-term extension to stay in Milwaukee, but no deal has materialized so far.

Peralta and the Brewers have navigated this road before. In February 2020, the two sides agreed to a five-year, $15.5 million extension that covered Peralta's remaining pre-arbitration and arbitration years. That pact also included a pair of affordable $8 million club options for 2025 and 2026.

The Brewers have already exercised the 2025 option, ensuring Peralta remains under contract at least through next season.

Since then, Peralta has grown into a key piece of the Brewers' rotation. While he spent much of 2020 in the bullpen, he moved almost exclusively into a starting role beginning in 2021. From 2021 through this season, he's posted a 3.40 ERA over 638 2/3 innings, with a 29.3% strikeout rate and a 9% walk rate. He hasn't landed on the injured list since 2022, and his 12.6 fWAR places him among the top 20 pitchers in the majors.

Despite his performance, Peralta's name has surfaced in trade rumors recently, as Milwaukee faces decisions about its long-term rotation plans and payroll structure. The Brewers' willingness to discuss Peralta, or its price tag for doing so, could depend on whether an extension comes together in the coming months.
