Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter/left fielder Christian Yelich is still a productive player 13 years into his career, but he used to be one of baseball's best. The 6-foot-3-inch, 203-pounder won the NL MVP award in 2018 after slashing .326/.401/.598 with 36 homers and 110 RBI in 147 games, and followed that by slashing .329/.429/.671 with 44 homers and 97 RBI across 130 games the year after that.
Yelich hit just 65 homers over his next five seasons after that, including the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. However, the two-time NL batting champion returned to All-Star status in 2024, slashing .315/.406/.504 with 11 homers and 42 RBI over 73 contests before his year ended with a back injury.
Yelich has already played 64 games this season, but he won't play in Wednesday's bout with the Atlanta Braves, per the Brewers' social media.
Outfielder Jake Bauers, who hit a homer vs. the Braves in Tuesday's 4-1 win, will play left, while catcher William Contreras will be the designated hitter. Yelich also missed Tuesday's game.
The latter player is out due to renewed swelling in his right wrist, via MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. He sustained the injury when he got hit by a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1.

Milwaukee is 5.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central and 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. The club is 6-4 in its last 10 contests.
The Brewers will host the St. Louis Cardinals after Wednesday's rubber match vs. the Braves.
