Garrett Mitchell came into the major leagues with the Brewers with such hype, such fanfare, such excitement. He arrived onto the scene in 2022 with a late-season promotion and immediately provided a spark to a team that desperately needed one.

Since then, the ups and downs on the rollercoaster ride of Mitchell's career are enough to give anyone motion sickness. Shoulder surgery in 2023 that cost him nearly a whole season, a broken finger at the end of spring training in 2024 that cost him three months, and then an oblique strain in 2025 that's already cost him two months.

Once again, this rollercoaster is heading downward with the latest injury update on Mitchell.

While recovering from that oblique strain and out on a rehab assignment, Garrett Mitchell slid back into first base last Friday and re-injured his left shoulder that underwent surgery back in 2023.

Mitchell received an MRI and the diagnosis from Brewers team physician Dr. William Raasch was that he had a bony Bankart lesion and surgery was recommended. Manager Pat Murphy told Athlon Sports that Mitchell dislodged some of the anchors that were put in his shoulder from the last surgery but that the injury was not as serious as the first one.

The initial recovery timeline of the first opinion is that Mitchell would be out another 8-10 weeks.

Mitchell is heading to Los Angeles to receive a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache. ElAttrache was the surgeon who performed Mitchell's initial shoulder surgery two years ago. If his opinion confirms the first opinion, Mitchell will undergo the surgery.

"The kid's been through a lot. Four years of trying to make a whole season, you know what I mean, my heart goes out to him and his family. Really, really tough. Really tough. And it hurts the Brewers" a somber Pat Murphy said.

In his four combined MLB seasons, Mitchell has played in just 141 career games with a .254/.333/.433 slash line with 13 homers, 23 stolen bases, and a 113 OPS+.

If the 8-10 week recovery timeline is accurate, Mitchell would be looking at a late August-early September return. It's another extremely unfortunate break for a player who has suffered a number of them already in his career.
