The Milwaukee Brewers recently clinched a postseason berth and are on track to capture their fourth NL Central division title in five seasons. Milwaukee has been a well-oiled machine in 2025, entering Wednesday with the league’s best record at 92-58. Manager Pat Murphy has continued to pull all the right strings — however, the team has been playing shorthanded recently as their All-Star closing pitcher Trevor Megill remains sidelined.
The 31-year-old flamethrower fully took over closing duties this year after Devin Williams was moved to the New York Yankees, and he has flourished. Megill owns a 2.54 ERA, 30 saves, along with 58 strikeouts in just 46 innings of work.
Megill has been on the 15-day injured list since August after suffering a Grade 1 right flexor strain. After he anticipated a quick recovery and spending the minimum on the IL, he suffered setbacks and soreness — causing Milwaukee to delay his return until he recovers properly.
Megill has recently been demoted to just playing catch instead of bullpens, and after playing catch on Tuesday, Murphy provided an unfortunate update on Megill’s status.
The Brewers skipper was asked if anything came of Megill’s throwing session on Wednesday, and he replied, “Nothing great. Not revealing but he didn't want to push it anymore.” (h/t David Gasper of Athlon Sports)
Trevor Megill played catch yesterday. Anything come of it?

"Nothing great. Not revealing but he didn't want to push it anymore" Pat Murphy said
Murphy is still hopeful Megill can make it back before the end of the regular season, but the timeline is slowly getting pushed back
If Milwaukee loses Megill for the postseason, it would be a massive blow and create a hole at the end of the bullpen. With two weeks remaining in the regular season, time is running out for Megill to build back up and be fully available for the playoffs.
In Megill’s absence, the Brewers have leaned on multiple arms to acquire saves — such as Aaron Ashby and Abner Uribe — but no option will provide the consistent dominance of Megill. His status and any progress in his recovery will be monitored as the Brewers will look to solidify their positioning atop the National League.
