Brewers Have Brice Turang Problem

The Milwaukee Brewers have a 2-1 series lead over the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series, but squandered an opportunity to advance on Tuesday night.

The Brew Crew will try to finish off the Padres on Wednesday in Petco Park, but they need some of their stars to wake up. William Contreras, Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio have done their part, coming through in big moments so far in this series. Even rookie Cooper Pratt has had a good series at the plate. However, Brice Turang, who was arguably the Brewers' most impactful bat in the regular season, has not come through.

Turang established himself as one of the best players in baseball this season, after having a great 2025 season. He was Team USA's starting second baseman, posted a career-high .816 OPS, career-high 21 home runs and career-high 100 RBIs. He led all second basemen in RBIs, hits, doubles and walks. However, through three postseason games, he is 1-for-11 with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Brewers left 11 runners on base in Game 3, and Turang was responsible for three of them. His lone hit came on a bloop single late in the game.

The problem dates back further than this postseason. Turang has now played in 17 postseason games for the Brewers. He is 10-for-60 with six walks and just three RBIs. For as important as he is to the Brewers' success, he has continuously failed to deliver in October.

A lot of that has to do with teams pitching him tougher in October, but he is more than capable of hitting good left-handed pitching. He plays Platinum Glove-caliber defense, and the Brewers are not going to bench him. However, he needs to be better in the biggest moments. He will surely be in a position to deliver again on Wednesday night, and if he fails to come through, the Brewers may have to play a winner-take-all Game 5 in Milwaukee.
