It’s now or never for the Milwaukee Brewers after falling to a 3-0 hole in their National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With their offense unable to show up again on Thursday, the Brewers got taken down anew by the reigning World Series champions, 3-1.
Milwaukee went 4-for-31 with 12 strikeouts in Game 3. The Dodgers weren’t much better, as they were 5-for-29 with 15 Ks, but they still did more than enough to leave the Brewers floundering for the third game in a row.
There is no denying the Brewers have put themselves in this difficult situation in large part because of their ice-cold offense. They have scored no more than a run in each of the first three games in the NLCS. In fact, of the four teams remaining in the MLB postseason, Milwaukee has the worst batting average at .101.
All the other three teams are batting .225 or better. Moreover, the Brewers only have a .345 OPS in the NLCS, also the worst by a mile. The Seattle Mariners, who are second-worst, have a .743 through three games in the American League Championship Series.
But the issues at the plate for the Brewers apparently goes all the way back to the previous series.
“The 18 hits by the Brewers since Game 4 of the NLDS are their fewest over any five-game stretch in franchise history,”. shared Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel via a post on X, formerly Twitter.
In any case, Milwaukee has no other choice but to keep on trying. Perhaps positive regression will show up finally for Pat Murphy’s side this Friday, and it better be, as the Brewers are just a loss away from getting eliminated.
