The Milwaukee Brewers are still standing in the 2025 MLB playoffs after nearly getting upset by the Chicago Cubs in the National League Division Series Round.
But it is not about to get much easier for the Brewers, as they will be facing Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-seven series in the National League Championship Series, which begins this Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Manager Pat Murphy and the Brewers swept Los Angeles, 6-0, in the 2025 regular season, but it’s a different story now in this matchup, considering that it’s against the backdrop of the postseason.
After winning their series against the Cubs, Murphy seemed to paint the idea that the Brewers are a glaring underdog against the reigning World Series champions.
“I don’t know how many of our guys would make their team…but it ain’t about that. It’s about how we come together as a team and compete,” Murphy said (h/t Scott Grodsky).

However, many fans didn’t seem to buy the narrative Murphy appeared to be pushing with that statement.
“Fake narrative. The Dodgers are the underdog. They went 0-6 during the regular season and the Brewers won more games than the Dodgers.,” said a fan on X.
Another one said: “Yeah there are levels to this game. Brewers are good. But Dodgers are just on a different level. But Kudos to the Brewers for making it to the NLCS
”
From a commenter: “He’s selling the David vs Goliath angle. Nice try but they own the best record in the MLB. We know what it is.”
“No one is falling for this golly gee shucks we’re just average Joe’s sh*t
,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: “Dude this gimmick is so tired. Your entire bullpen, LF, RF, 2b, C would start for them”
Said another: “Nobody is falling for this underdog, David vs Goliath bit. The Brewers were the better team pretty much all season.”
