Brewers’ Pat Murphy Sends Message After Sal Frelick Update

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy offered an encouraging update on Sal Frelick before Friday's game, expressing confidence that the outfielder will return despite his recent shoulder issue. The update comes after Frelick underwent further evaluation following Wednesday's game.

According to Bally Sports Wisconsin's Dominic Cotroneo, Frelick received a cortisone shot and underwent imaging that revealed no structural damage. Murphy said the Brewers are shutting Frelick down from throwing while he continues strengthening his rotator cuff, adding, "I'm confident he'll be back."

The positive diagnosis gives Milwaukee optimism that one of its top defensive outfielders can return without requiring a lengthy absence.

Frelick has appeared in 89 games this season, batting .268 with a .341 on-base percentage and .375 slugging percentage. He has added four home runs, 33 RBIs and 12 stolen bases while providing Gold Glove-caliber defense in the outfield.

The shoulder discomfort surfaced after a diving play earlier this week, raising concerns about a more serious injury. Instead, the clean imaging results allowed the Brewers to pursue a conservative treatment plan centered on rest and rehabilitation.

Milwaukee enters Friday with a 64-38 record, maintaining a seven-game lead over the Chicago Cubs atop the National League Central. The Brewers have continued to build one of baseball's best records despite several injuries throughout the roster.

Murphy's comments also reduce pressure on the front office ahead of the trade deadline. With Frelick expected back, Milwaukee can remain focused on reinforcing its pitching staff rather than searching for outfield help.
