Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for making crotch-chop gestures toward the St. Louis Cardinals dugout following a strikeout earlier this week.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Uribe is appealing the suspension.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night during Milwaukee’s 6-0 win over the Cardinals. After striking out Alec Burleson to end the eighth inning, Uribe turned toward the Cardinals’ dugout and performed three WWE-style crotch chops in celebration.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy was not pleased with the display and called the behavior “unacceptable” in comments after the game. Murphy addressed the situation privately with Uribe.
Uribe later apologized to his teammates, coaches, and Brewers fans for the gesture. However, he also pointed to heightened tension in the series, claiming that Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol had made signs earlier that Uribe interpreted as threats to hit Milwaukee batters.
This is not Uribe’s first run-in with MLB discipline. In 2024, he was suspended for six games (later reduced to four) after being involved in a benches-clearing brawl with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Uribe will serve the one-game suspension unless his appeal is successful. The Brewers have not commented further on the situation.
