Brewers Rotation Depth Chart as Pitchers and Catchers Report to Spring Training

The Milwaukee Brewers have their pitchers and catchers report date today as spring training gets underway. You can never have enough starting pitching, as the Brewers are well familiar with.

Where do things stand with this starting rotation and who are the options the Brewers have in camp as preparations for the season begin? We've already received an update on Brandon Woodruff's recovery. The only other injured pitcher that is known coming into camp is Robert Gasser, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery and won't be ready to pitch until late in the 2025 season.

While plenty can and will change between now and Opening Day, here's where the rotation depth for Milwaukee currently stands.

Brewers likely starting rotation depth chart heading into 2025

1. Freddy Peralta

2. Aaron Civale

3. Nestor Cortes

4. Tobias Myers

5/6. DL Hall/Aaron Ashby

40 man Depth: Logan Henderson, Elvin Rodriguez, Chad Patrick, Carlos F. Rodriguez

NRIs: Jacob Misiorowski, Thomas Pannone, Easton McGee, Bruce Zimmermann

Injured: Brandon Woodruff, Robert Gasser

The top four in this Brewers rotation is pretty clear and Pat Murphy has even confirmed that, assuming health, it'll be Peralta, Civale, Cortes, and Myers in the rotation. It won't necessarily be in that order, but it'll be those four pitchers.

With Woodruff likely starting the year on the IL as he ramps back up from shoulder surgery, the last spot in the five man rotation is likely going to one of DL Hall or Aaron Ashby. It's too close and too early to put one ahead of the other in this race, which will be one of the most-watched roster battles this Brewers camp.

The Brewers have eight more starting pitchers in big league camp behind those top six arms, four on the 40 man roster and four non-roster invitees. Elvin Rodriguez was signed in free agency following a great season in Japan last year. Henderson and Patrick were added to the 40 man in November to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft.

Of the non-roster invites, Jacob Misiorowski is going to draw the most attention as the top pitching prospect in the organization. However, the one I'm most interested to watch among this group is Bruce Zimmermann. Zimmermann had a four season run with the Orioles, mostly as a starter. While he didn't have great results, he has a lot more big league experience than most NRIs and could sneak his way onto the roster with a strong camp.

Watching how Woodruff comes along will be important. The Brewers will be cautious with him but we'll still likely see him at least a little bit during camp and there should be updates aplenty on his progress.

The Brewers rotation depth is in a solid spot with spring training opening today. That can change quickly, but they're in as good of a position as they can be right now.
