The Milwaukee Brewers recently lost reliever Shelby Miller to a season ending UCL sprain , are currently without Trevor Megill, DL Hall, and Grant Anderson, and now, according to Pat Murphy, they will lose another bullpen arm of significance.
Following the Brewers series against the Phillies concluding, Murphy, the manager, shared both good news and bad news. The good was that Megill’s bullpen earlier in the day went well and he is on pace to be activated by September 16. As for the bad, Murphy was not ready to reveal a name, but he said a IL transaction involving a reliever will be announced prior to the weekend series against the Pirates.
Good news for the Brewers: Trevor Megill’s bullpen went well and he’s on a path to being active by Sept. 16, per Pat Murphy.
Bad news (*really* bad news) for the Brewers: Another reliever is about to be placed on the IL. Murph was not yet prepared to say who.

The only bit of information that Murphy revealed in regards to the reliever being placed on the IL is that it won’t involve anyone who pitched in Thursday’s finale. This rules out Aaron Ashby, Tobias Myers, Rob Zastrzny, and Joel Payamps. It also presumably means Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe are not involved as well, seeing how they were warming in the bullpen during the game, but never got in.
Players left then include Erick Fedde, Nick Mears, and Craig Yoho. Fedde last appeared in a game on August 27, when he provided a spot start for Quinn Priester. Mears threw last on Labor Day. Lastly, Yoho has not been in a game since being called up on September 1.
All of these presumptions are purely speculative, reading between the lines of Murphy’s comments, so it remains to be seen who ultimately lands on the IL. Regardless, with how heavily the Brewers’ bullpen has been used lately, losing another reliever will be a big blow to the team.
