Brice Turang Announces Update After Brewers Trade

The Milwaukee Brewers made a trade hours before Saturday's first pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Milwaukee acquired Jonathan Ornelas from the Athletics in exchange for cash considerations. Ji-Hwan Bae was designated for assignment in a corresponding move, which makes sense considering Ornelas will take over the utility role Bae was filling.

The reason Milwaukee was able to make the deal past the trade deadline is because Ornelas was not on the Athletics' 40-man roster, making him eligible to be dealt.

However, the trade raised concern given the condition of second baseman Brice Turang. With Milwaukee deciding to look for another infielder capable of playing the right side, it led to worry that Turang's absence could be a longer-term issue.

Turang has missed the opening two games of Milwaukee's current four-game set against the Dodgers due to a left knee injury.

He underwent an MRI to determine if he suffered any ligament damage, and fortunately that was not the case. He is still getting a second opinion to be certain.

Turang then provided another update on whether or not he believes he will need a stint on the injured list.

For Turang to still be participating in baseball activities is definitely an encouraging sign. The Brewers cannot afford to lose him. He has been their most complete player this season, and the former Platinum Glove winner is proving he is just as formidable as a hitter.

Across 115 games, the 26-year-old has posted a .268 batting average, .360 on-base percentage, .810 OPS, 16 home runs and 76 RBIs.

With Milwaukee looking to secure a first-round bye in the MLB postseason for a second straight season, that path becomes much more likely with a healthy Turang in the lineup.
