Calls Mount for Suspension of Mariners Outfielder After Throwing Bat at Pitcher in AAA Game

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles has played just 10 games this season after suffering a dislocated shoulder in April. The former Washington National is in his second year in Seattle and hit .328 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 77 games after being released from the Nationals in the middle of the season.

Robles began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma last Tuesday as he ramps up to return to the big-league club. During his rehab assignment, Robles has been hit by a pitch a couple of times entering Sunday's game.

Robles was hit by a pitch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and it almost happened again on Sunday.

This time, Robles didn't take it too well and reacted by throwing a bat toward the pitcher, Joey Estes.

Robles ran toward the mound and had to be held back, and he was immediately ejected from the game.

Estes also hit Robles with a pitch on Tuesday, and the Mariners' OF was hit twice in that same game, which was his first rehab assignment with Tacoma.

Calls Mount For Robles to be Suspended

After the play happened, calls immediately came across social media for Robles to be suspended.

"That should be a rest-of-the-year suspension for Victor Robles," one user wrote.

"Victor Robles is gonna be suspended a while for this," another wrote. "Victor Robles with an ALL TIMER today…. Can’t wait to see what this suspension ends up being," said another.

"He's going to be suspended for a while," another fan said. "I don't care if Victor Robles has been hit 8,000 times on his rehab assignment... Throwing a bat at a dude warrants at least a five game suspension," replied another.

"So is Victor Robles gonna get a year suspension? Anything less is a tap on the wrist. You cant do that," said another.

What Could a Suspension Look Like For Robles?

At this point, it remains to be seen what Robles' punishment will be.

For some perspective, Manny Machado was suspended for five games in 2014 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles after throwing a bat at the third baseman.

Delmon Young was also suspended in the International League for 50 games after throwing a bat at an umpire.

Young's suspension was handed down by the International League, and this time, it is up to the MLB to hand down a punishment for Robles.

The MLB will hand down the punishment for Robles, and it could be a big loss for the Mariners, depending on the number of games he receives.
