Christian Pache, who has not played in the Majors since 2024, has been off to a red-hot start in spring training. While the Mets have signed him to a minor-league deal, if Pache continues his success so far, he may earn a spot on the roster. However, it may not be that easy for him.

Christian Pache Is Making A Case To Make This Mets team.

In six games so far, Pache is hitting a shocking .615 with one homer and two rbis. Of course, this may not be sustainable for a player like him. A career .181 hitter, Pache was never known for his bat and was mostly used as a late-inning, defensive player. He has had stints with the Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins, and Baltimore Orioles. The Mets took a chance on him this offseason, and so far, he’s shown promise. However, the Mets may not bring him up to the Majors with his past track record. He is also competing with a few other players for a roster spot.

Pache Will Have To Beat Out A Few Other Players for a Roster Spot

Pache will have to prove that what he’s doing right now isn’t a fluke. He is currently competing against Mike Tauchman, Carson Benge, and MJ Melendez, amongst others, for a spot on the opening day roster. While he may not make the roster right out of the gate, he can always be brought up throughout the season due to injuries or any underperformers. He can play a similar role to what Tyrone Taylor is. He could be a solid defensive player and come in for those clutch outs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Benge, who hit his first homer in spring training against Israel, is the most likely to get that rightfield spot on the team. Unless the Mets see him start to cool off and assume he isn’t ready. This could be a feel-good story for a player like Pache. He’s going to have to keep on tearing it up in the few weeks left of spring training. The Mets have a lot of fun position battles going on, and there are a lot of good players fighting. It will come down to the nitty-gritty for the players named above.

Can Pache Pull It Out and Make A Spot On This Team?

This could prove to be a big season for Pache if he can figure out his bat issues. If this is a fluke for the 27-year-old, it will be heartbreaking after the red-hot start he got off to. Of course, he will have other ways to be brought up and down throughout the season, but this could be a huge opportunity for him. It seems like it’s going to be a fun year for this team, and it will be enticing to see if Pache will have a spot at all on this team come the start of the season.
