The St. Louis Cardinals have taken some hits with injuries over the past few days, with the latest being to Hunter Dobbins. The starter recently left the game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth inning with right elbow inflammation. The next day, the Cardinals made a decision on Dobbins, placing him on the injured list.

“LHP Quinn Mathews has been recalled from Memphis (AAA). RHP Hunter Dobbins has been placed on the 15-day IL (right forearm tightness),” the Cardinals wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Dobbins noted that he felt tightness in his forearm during warmups, but it didn’t seem like something that he was too worried about. What caused the concern was that it didn’t get better while the game was taking place.

Hopefully, Dobbins is able to return sooner rather than later, as they’re currently 66-64 and are in third place in the NL Central.

The Cardinals are looking to build a sustainable roster for years to come, and they made moves throughout the season to help build that. Alec Burleson was one of the players who many thought would be traded at the deadline, but the Cardinals decided to keep him. Afterward, Burleson noted that he wanted to stay with the team.

“Obviously, we’re building toward something that is gonna look really good in the next couple years, and I would like to think I’ve been a small part of that,” Burleson said on Foul Territory TV. “On the off chance {that I was traded at the deadline}, it would have kind of hurt a little bit. Just to leave that, and leave what little bit I’ve contributed to what it’s gonna look like in the next few years.”

It’s good to know that players actually want to be on the team, and it means they’re building something special.
