The St. Louis Cardinals appear to have avoided a serious injury with Gold Glove shortstop Masyn Winn.
During last night's television broadcast of the Cardinals' 9-6 walk-off victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates , Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told team reporter Jim Hayes that Winn's MRI of his left knee came back clean earlier in the day.
Oli Marmol just told me the imaging on Winn’s left knee came back clean. Could possibly be back in the lineup tomorrow.

The 24-year-old exited Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals after tweaking his left knee while legging out a fielder's choice. Winn was not in the lineup for last night's series opener, though Marmol added that the shortstop could return as soon as tomorrow.
Winn will look to continue providing a spark for a Cardinals team that has exceeded expectations so far in 2026. St. Louis enters today with a 28-19 record and sits second in the National League Central, just a half-game behind the Milwaukee Brewers.
Before exiting Sunday's game, Winn was slashing .255/.331/.353 with one home run and 17 RBIs. While those numbers are not eye-popping, Winn's defense certainly is. Last season, he posted a remarkable .994 fielding percentage while committing just three errors. Although he already has four errors this season, Winn's defense remains irreplaceable for St. Louis.

If Winn is not ready to play tomorrow, expect César Prieto or Thomas Saggese to fill in at shortstop. While several players have stepped up offensively for St. Louis this season, the team's shortstop depth remains limited. Prieto has played in just four games this season and has yet to record a hit (0-for-8). Meanwhile, Saggese is batting only .162 across 68 at-bats.
Nonetheless, Winn's positive MRI results are a major relief for St. Louis. Last season, his year was cut short because of a torn meniscus in his right knee. The Cardinals may still choose to be cautious given that history. But for now, Winn appears on track to return tomorrow barring any setbacks.
St. Louis continues its series against Pittsburgh tonight at 7:45 ET.
