Former St. Louis catcher Chance Sisco has been released by the Cardinals from his minor league deal it was announced Wednesday night.
Sisco was once a promising prospect, originally drafted in the second round in 2013 by the Baltimore Orioles.
The 30-yard old spent five seasons (2017-'21) in the majors with the Orioles and the New York Mets, racking up 608 career plate appearances. His career numbers include 16 home runs. 54 RBI and a slash line of .197/.317/.337.
The cut comes after a subpar spring training performance. At the plate, Sisco only registered nine at bats this spring, striking out six times and failing to register a hit.

With veteran Willson Contreras penciled in at first base, the Cardinals will likely turn to Iván Herrera and Pedro Pagés for most of the behind-the-plate duties.
Herrera, 24, enters his fourth season spending time with the Cardinals’ big league club. Last year Herrera saw action in 56 games behind the dish; up 43 from his sophomore campaign. We can probably expect to see a similar role in 2025.
Pagés, 26, played in 68 games with the Cardinals in his inaugural season last year. After being drafted in the sixth-round of the 2019 MLB Draft by St. Louis, the Venezuelan product spent four years climbing the Cardinals minor league ranks.
St. Louis is definitely making a ‘youth’ oriented move here, hoping to create a two-headed demon behind the plate.
As for the starting spot, the Cardinals might lean towards Herrera based on offensive needs. Herrera finished last season with a batting average of .301 while Pagés finished his first season with the Cardinals batting .238.
With the season less than a week out, the Cardinals continue to narrow down their roster to prepare for the 2025 MLB season.
