Last year, Carlos Rodon posted his best season in a New York Yankees uniform so far. However, he was ineffective on the mound during the playoffs due to an elbow issue. Rodon had surgery to remove a bone spur in his left arm in October. Therefore, the Yankees placed him on the IL at the start of the 2026 campaign.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes Carlos Rodon will return to their starting rotation from the IL before Gerrit Cole. Rodon was expected to throw 55-60 pitches in his final live BP session. Both he and Cole are expected to begin their respective rehab assignments shortly.
“Aaron Boone said he still expects Carlos Rodón back before Gerrit Cole. Rodón is scheduled to throw 55-60 pitches in live BP today, then likely to get into a game next time out,” Hoch posted on X.

Cole is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent prior to the start of the 2025 campaign. As a result, he missed the entire season for the Yankees.
Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole are two of the most experienced starting pitchers for the New York Yankees. Their absence during the opening few weeks of the 2026 season was expected to be a massive detriment to the team. However, the Yankees are coping quite well without Rodon and Cole in the rotation.
Max Fried is leading the pitching staff superbly, with Cam Schlittler making an outstanding start to the campaign. Will Warren is also taking a big step forward after his promising rookie season last year, while Ryan Weathers is enjoying an excellent start to life with his new team. All of them have an ERA under 3.50.
