Carsten Sabathia signs with Brewers on dad CC’s birthday

Carsten was selected by the Brewers in the 20th round of the recently concluded 2026 MLB Draft, marking some sort of a full-circle moment for the Sabathia family.

The former Cy Young Award winner Sabathia had a brief stint with the Brewers in 2008, when he was traded by the then-Cleveland Indians to Milwaukee. He would leave Milwaukee in the following winter after he signed with the New York Yankees, but he still made a mark on the Brewers and their fans.

Carsten, just five years old when his dad became a Brewer, still remembers the good times.

“I remember not wanting to leave because it was the summertime, and I was like, ‘Mom, we’re in Milwaukee and I never have to go to school,” Carsten said of his memories in Milwaukee (h/t Adam McCalvy of MLB.com).

“This is awesome. I never want to leave,’” Carsten said. “Being real young, that’s all you’re thinking about. I remember going to the stadium and loving the uniforms, loving the colors, loving the slide in deep left-center.”

During his senior season with the Houston Cougars, Carston, an infielder, finished second on his team with a .511 slugging percentage and made the All-Silver Glove Series Team.
