CC Sabathia Comments on Disappointing End to Yankees Season

“The best team in the AL all season long and better team in the series won,” Sabathia wrote. “Props to Tampa Bay. Yankees got a long offseason ahead.”

That assessment reflects how little went right for New York during the ALDS. The Yankees scored only five runs across the three games, struggling to consistently produce against a Rays team that controlled the series from the opening game.

The absence of Aaron Judge also loomed large. The three-time American League MVP was unavailable because of a right calf strain, leaving New York without its biggest offensive presence for the entire series.

The Yankees also dealt with defensive issues during the series. Jazz Chisholm Jr. took responsibility for a costly throwing error in Game 2, part of a four-error performance that helped put New York in a difficult position.

Now the Yankees face an offseason that could bring significant changes. The front office must evaluate the roster, the coaching staff and how to build a team capable of making a deeper postseason run.

For Sabathia, the message was simple: Tampa Bay earned its place in the next round, while New York has plenty of work to do before returning to October.
