The Chicago Cubs had a busy first night of the 2025 MLB Draft, selecting outfielders Ethan Conrad and Kane Kepley, and right-handed pitcher Dominick Reid in the first three rounds. Now, the event's second day starts with a bang for the Cubs as they select 87th-ranked prospect RHP Kaleb Wing. Wing is a high school player from Scotts Valley in California.
With their 4th‑round pick (No. 121 overall), the @Cubs select Scotts Valley (CA) right-handed pitcher Kaleb Wing, No. 87 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

Wing's dad was a second-round pick of the Chicago White Sox back in 2001. Now, his son is a fourth-round selection by the other team in Chicago as the Cubs take Kaleb Wing to pitch. Currently, Wing is committed to Loyola Marymount to both pitch and hit, but the Cubs drafting the youngster as a pitcher is telling of his potential pro future.
Wing has a three-pitch mix, featuring a fastball that was topping out at 95 mph in the spring and a nasty hook from his curveball. He has a changeup that he is developing, and the Cubs could surely help him get that changeup to a point where it is a respectable third offering. The 18-year-old is already 6'2" and 180 lbs., so he may not be able to add much more weight to a lanky frame. Nonetheless, the current gas he's throwing is more than adequate.
Per MLB Pipeline, Wing's athleticism easily allows him to repeat his delivery. Wing is an exciting prospect, and may require above slot value to rip him away from his collegiate commitment.
Wing had a great season at the plate for Scotts Valley in 2025, slashing .307/.500/.520 with four home runs and 24 RBIs. On the pitching front, Wing made 10 appearances, carrying a 1.23 ERA. In addition, he pitched 45.2 innings and fanned 79 batters compared to just 15 walks.
