The Chicago White Sox will have plenty of crucial decisions to make throughout the offseason. On Monday, that included adding a new infielder to the mix.
The White Sox claimed infielder Graham Pauley off of waivers from the Miami Marlins, the team announced. In turn, left-handed pitcher Ky Bush and outfielder Junior Perez have been sent to Triple-A.
This early in the offseason, Chicago’s roster will likely look much different come Opening Day. There’s no guarantee Pauley makes the final 25. But now he’ll at least have an opportunity to leave a mark. And the infielder has clearly caught the White Sox’s attention.
Pauley won’t be the biggest addition Chicago makes all offseason. But he will now be a fixture in any infield plans.
After a 13-game cup of coffee with the San Diego Padres in 2024, Pauley was traded to the Marlins. He appeared in 124 games over his two years there, hitting .218 with eight home runs, 36 RBIs and three stolen bases. Over his 62 games in 2026, Pauley hit four home runs with 25 RBIs, both career-highs.
While his offensive numbers don’t jump off the page, Pauley has shown plenty of value with his glove. The former Marlin has played every infield position except for shortstop. Miami experimented with him playing outfield as field. Chicago would at least like Pauley to be as versatile as possible.
As it stands, the White Sox’s infield is accounted for. Shortstop Colson Montgomery will have some questions to answer after his record-breaking 227 strikeouts. But Chicago doesn’t have many complaints for Miguel Vargas, Chase Meidroth and Munetaka Murakami.
Still, if Pauley were to make the final roster, he’d have an opportunity to serve as all of their backups. That’s a valuable place to be in over a 162-game season. Whether or not Pauley gets that chance will likely be answered in spring training.
