Christian Yelich News Emerges After Fourth Straight Absence from Brewers Lineup

The Milwaukee Brewers (87–55) are looking to finish out the season strong, currently owning the league’s best record and a commanding 5.5-game lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs.

Christian Yelich has once again proven to be one of the league’s most productive hitters, even as he enters the latter stage of his career.

The 33-year-old veteran has transitioned primarily to a designated hitter role to optimize his availability and get more rest — after missing most of the 2024 season due to back surgery.

Yelich has taken full advantage in 2025, posting a .268 batting average, .350 on-base percentage, .814 OPS, 27 home runs and 92 RBIs across 132 games.

Christian Yelich Injury Update

Unfortunately, Yelich has not appeared in the Brewers’ lineup since Monday after being unexpectedly scratched with back tightness on Wednesday. The Brewers had a rare Tuesday off day.

Manager Pat Murphy has downplayed the issue, saying, “I think it's pretty common for someone who had back surgery that at some point due to wear and tear, you're going to have that flare-up again of stiffness and soreness and that type of thing. We've been assured that it's nothing more than that.”

While Murphy has indicated the injury isn’t serious, Milwaukee fans were still uneasy after Yelich remained out of the lineup for a fourth straight game on Saturday heading into a matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, an encouraging update emerged: Yelich was scheduled to take swings in the batting cage — the first time he has swung the bat since experiencing the tightness.

“Christian Yelich is scheduled to take some swings in the cage today,” wrote MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.

This is a positive development for Milwaukee, and if all goes well, Yelich’s return could come in the series finale on Sunday.

The Brewers are likely taking a cautious approach with Yelich, given their control of the division and the lack of urgency in the schedule. His health heading into October remains the top priority.

Now in his eighth season with the Brewers, Yelich is no longer expected to shoulder the entire load as Milwaukee features one of the most complete rosters in MLB.
