Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson was sent on a minor league rehab assignment and played in his first game with the Louisville Bats on Wednesday.

In his first at-bat, he hit a home run.

Stephenson went 1-3 with a home run.

He has been on the injured list since the middle of August with a fractured thumb. He is hitting .227 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs this season.

Stephenson is expected to play another game with Louisville on Thursday, but if all goes well, he could join the Reds for their three-game series against the New York Mets.

The Reds are 70-70 and five games back of the New York Mets for the third and final National League Wild Card spot.
