Cody Bellinger makes sweet diving catch to end Yankees’ win

Cody Bellinger made a nice diving catch to seal the New York Yankees’ 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y., on Wednesday night.

MJ Melendez was batting for the Royals against Fernando Cruz with two outs and a runner on second base in the top of the ninth inning. Melendez had a 2-1 count and belted a line drive to right field. Bellinger ran to his left and made a nice diving catch to end the game.

That catch helped seal the sweep for the Yankees.

Bellinger was a Gold Glove winner in 2019 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His Yankees teammates think that sort of catch proves why he won a Gold Glove and may be in line to win one this year too.

“There’s a reason why he’s got gold on his glove. Very few people make that catch, especially in a big moment like that,” Aaron Judge said of Bellinger after the game.

Bellinger has played all over the outfield for the Yankees this season and has mostly played in left and center field. But he showed he can play in right field just as well.
