The Los Angeles Angels are in fourth place in the AL West while the New York Yankees top the AL East, but their last two matchups against each other haven't reflected that. The Angels won both games by a combined score of 5-0, and the Yankees have lost five straight after getting swept by the Boston Red Sox in their preceding series.
Outfielder Cody Bellinger is one of several New York players who have struggled recently. The 29-year-old is 1-for-9 with a double over the past two games against Los Angeles and hasn't had a multi-hit game since June 7.
Bellinger described the Yankees' players-only meeting after Tuesday's loss, via NJ.com's Randy Miller.
“We had good talks,” the former Chicago Cub said. “It’s a little rut we’re in and we’ve got to get out of it. The good teams get out of it. I’ve got full confidence in the guys in here. We have such a talented team.”
The Yankees are still 2.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Ras atop the AL East despite their current slide.

The bright side for New York is that its pitching has been serviceable. The team hasn't given up more than four runs in a game since its 11-7 loss to the Red Sox on June 8. Starting hurler Clarke Schmidt tossed 7.2 scoreless innings against the Angels on Monday, and right-hander Will Warren allowed three runs in six frames on Tuesday.
Yankees southpaw Ryan Yarbrough will start against Los Angeles right-hander Jack Kochanowicz on Wednesday night.
