BOSTON — The Arizona Diamondbacks and fans were left stunned Monday night when All-Star Ketel Marte didn’t show up to Fenway Park ahead of the night’s matchup against the Boston Red Sox.

While manager Torey Lovullo gave as much information as he could on Marte’s whereabouts and the situation, two reports have emerged Tuesday morning providing conflicting details on where the second baseman could be.

According to Arizona Central’s Nick Piecoro, Marte is on his way back to Arizona to get an MRI on his knee. However, Piecoro had previously reported, and Lovullo also indicated postgame Monday, that the All-Star was physically fine.

That report was followed by another update.

According to ESPN’s Enrique Rojas, Marte is still in Boston and is dealing with a personal situation, but he and his family are all fine. The conflicting reports on Marte’s whereabouts and status have created more questions than answers surrounding the All-Star’s sudden absence.

Lovullo was visibly emotional postgame Monday, stating he knew Marte’s absence was a possibility without diving into the specifics of those conversations. Teammates Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo also spoke about the situation, with neither knowing the full details.

For now, the Diamondbacks appear to be dealing with a situation that remains unclear publicly. Between the conflicting reports and Lovullo’s emotional comments, there is still no definitive explanation for why Marte was absent Monday night.

Until more information becomes available, the focus remains on Marte and his well-being. The D-Backs and their fans will likely be waiting for clarity on his status and when, or if, he will rejoin the team.
